Daughter (13) of Hugo de Jonge threatened via Insta: community service imposed

A 21-year-old man from Boxtel was sentenced on appeal to eighty hours of community service for threatening former corona minister Hugo de Jonge and his daughter. The then 13-year-old girl received a message via Instagram in early 2021 with the text ‘I’m gonna kill your father’.

The court in Den Bosch also imposed a suspended prison sentence of two months on the man. A sentence that he only has to serve if he commits another offense within two years. The police judge previously imposed a community service order of 25 hours on the man for threatening the minister. He was then acquitted for threatening his daughter. Justice appealed against this ruling.

The court ruled that the daughter could indeed ‘fear that her father’s life might be in danger’ because of the message. Something that the defendant’s counsel disputed.

‘Least favorite politician’
The court blames the man for knowing that the girl was underage when he sent the threat. He thought she was 16, according to the file. The court also took into account the fact that the man made the threat in corona time. A period in which the minister was confronted with ‘all sorts of insulting, insulting and threatening remarks’.

The man previously stated that he had sent the message in a drunken stupor. He had been pushed on by a friend. He also indicated that Minister De Jonge was his least favorite politician.
