Date for streaming start on Disney + is set

Disney+ has announced when Avatar 2: The Way Of Water will be added to its movie offering. From June 7th, the sequel to the most successful cinema film of all time will be streamed. The special effects spectacle was produced by 20th Century Fox, which is owned by Disney.

Unlike other films by the house – which is known to include the Marvel blockbusters – Disney + has taken a little more time for the second part of the “Avatar” series, which is planned for even more episodes. For many films, there was a release window of three months before the theatrical release. However, “Avatar 2: The Way Of Water” will have been on the big screen for six months before it can also be viewed on the sofa at home.

The simple reason for this is that the film is still being shown in cinemas and was of course very expensive to produce for the Disney group. There should be a small boost for the streaming premiere of the fantasy hit because it has not yet been decided when “Avatar 2” will be released on DVD and Blu-ray.

With $2.3 billion in sales to date, the new Cameron film is the third highest-grossing in cinema history, beaten only by Avengers: Endgame (second place) and, of course, Avatar. Directly after “Avatar 2” follows another Cameron hit: “Titanic”. The film was also a hit in Germany.

The success of “Way Of Water” should support the director’s plans to significantly expand his narrative universe. The third part has already been largely completed and will be released in cinemas on December 18, 2024. Parts four and five are only in the planning phase so far, but thanks to the large number of visitors, they should soon be in development. Screen starts are planned for December 16, 2016 and December 20, 2028.

And so one could probably speak of an “Avatar” decade without false modesty with a view to the popcorn cinema.
