…better and better!
Another milestone has been added to the transfer market statistics. All the games played by the national team of Moldova can now be found in our database. In the still relatively short history of the national team, 262 games were played. Alexandru Epureanu has played in more than a third of those games. This makes him the record national player with 100 international matches (8 goals). He is currently under contract with Istanbul Basaksehir, but he ended his national team career in 2021. The record goalscorer is Serghei Clescenco with 11 goals in 66 games. He has been the national coach of his home country since December 2021.
The first official international match in Moldova’s history came in 1991, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and they lost 4-2 to Georgia. Alexandru Spiridon scored the first goal in Moldova’s history. The first win in history came in 1992 against Pakistan 5-0, which is also the highest win to date. The players suffered the heaviest defeat last year in the World Cup qualifier against Denmark with 8-0 (all record results from Moldova). The best place in the world rankings was 52nd place in 2007, the national team is currently ranked 180th.
Here against Austria’s Arnautovic: Alexandru Epureanu has played in more than a third of all Moldova’s international matches.
