Database: All international matches of Azerbaijan complete – nemesis Klose

…better and better!

Another milestone has been added to the transfer market statistics. All the games played by Azerbaijan can now be found in our database. In the still relatively short history of the national team, 274 games were completed. Rashad Sadyqov has played in more than a third of those games. This makes him the record national player with 99 international matches (five goals). He ended his career at Qarabag FK in 2020. The top scorer so far is Qurban Qurbanov with 12 goals in 66 appearances.

The first official international match in the history of Azerbaijan took place in 1992 and was lost to Georgia 3-6. The first goal was scored by Nazim Suleymanov. The first victory in history was again in 1993 against Georgia (1-0). The highest success was in 2017 against San Marino (5:1) in the World Cup qualifier. The players suffered their heaviest defeat in 1995 in the European Championship qualifier with 0:10 against France (all record results of Azerbaijan). The best place in the world rankings was 73rd place in 2014, the national team is currently in 129th place.

Of the opposing players in Azerbaijan, former German international Miroslav Klose may have been particularly memorable. He scored the most goals by a player against the Asia Minor side in just three games, scoring five goals against Azerbaijan.
