Ua dedicated international day to the father of the theory of evolution and which represents an excellent opportunity to continue talking about science and progress. Today is Darwin Daythe annual event that celebrates the birth of Charles Darwin, born on 12 February 1809, the English naturalist who revolutionized our understanding of the natural world with his theory of evolution by natural selection.
Darwin Day, events throughout Italy
More felt in Anglo-Saxon countries, in particular, especially in the United States, also in Italy Science and evolution enthusiasts can take part in the numerous events scheduled throughout the peninsula, organized thanks also to the support of scientific bodies, museums, universities and associations, such as theUnion of atheists and rationalist agnostics (Uaar) with his traditional appointment calendar.
A tribute to science and evolution
Conferences, debates and thematic aperitifs scattered everywhere are therefore an opportunity to delve deeper into topics such as evolution, biodiversityepigenetics, but more generally to reaffirm the importance of secular and rational thought on the major issues that have man and the species at their centre.
The origin of species which is still controversial
The publication in 1859 of the book “The origin of species” and the theory contained within it have shaken and challenged dominant religious and philosophical beliefs: the scientific explanation for the diversity of life on Earth and evolution by natural selection have sparked a strong debate, but have also paved the way for a new era of understanding of biology, medicine and many other disciplines.
Darwin Day, don’t forget critical thinking
The anniversary which not everyone knows about is very important because remember the power of science, because it reminds you to always question your beliefs and seek the truth through rigorous analysis. It is a time to reflect on the advances of scientific knowledge, to discuss the challenges we face epto reaffirm the importance of critical thinking.
