Darts legend Peter Wright announces drastic measures

Peter Wright has had a disappointing season. The negative highlight was the second round exit at the 2024 Darts World Cup. The former number one is therefore taking drastic measures.

“I gave up all my trophies and darts so I can start again. I want new trophies this year,” Wright revealed in an interview with the professional association PDC.

“Snakebite” is known for always experimenting with his darts. In the past few months, however, this method has rarely worked well. Although the Scot won another major tournament with the European Darts Championship in 2023, the 53-year-old experienced a rude awakening at the World Cup in Ally Pally.

Wright quietly lost his opening match in the second round against Welshman Jim Williams 0-3 in sets. The two-time world champion only ranks eighth in the Order of Merit.

“Last year was terrible”

“Last year was terrible and the year before that was terrible too, but I’m looking forward to playing this year,” the right-hander revealed ahead of the Bahrain Darts Masters. “Last year I took some time off and it didn’t work, we saw that in the Premier League. This year I’ll give it my all again,” assured Wright.

“I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I only use one set of darts. If I can do that all year round, I’ll be happy and be a big threat to everyone,” said the fan favorite aggressively.

According to Wright, he was also encouraged by child prodigy Luke Littler. “Luke Littler is the best thing I’ve ever seen on TV! That’s why he inspired me to work hard on myself again,” he enthused. In 2024, things should finally be going smoothly again for Wright on the PDC tour.
