Against Kiel directly in the squad
SV Darmstadt 98 has made use of the market for players without a club and strengthened its staff. As the “Lilien” announced, former Gladbacher Keanan Bennetts will receive a contract until the end of the season. The 23-year-old offensive player had already trained with the second division club from the end of July to the beginning of August and is part of the squad for the game against Holstein Kiel on Friday evening.
Sports director Carsten Wehlmann explained: “From a sporting point of view, Keanan Bennetts had already convinced us in the summer. We are all the happier that it has now worked out with the obligation – and above all in the short time. Since he has already gained an insight into our processes and content, we assume that he will not need a long start-up time for the integration. Keanan expands our offensive options, especially given the current staffing situation. He will already be in our squad this Friday evening against Kiel.”

Bennetts said: “My first impression of the club and the team was great. At the time, the team welcomed me very openly and in a friendly manner, and there is a lot of quality in the squad. That’s why I’m very happy that I can now be here for a longer period of time. From contact to signature, everything went incredibly fast. But when I heard that Darmstadt wanted to sign me, I was hooked right away. My anticipation for tonight is huge: I can hardly wait to experience the stadium atmosphere for the first time.”

Born in London, who also played for the German U15s in the junior division, he can be used flexibly on the left. Bennetts is a homegrown Tottenham Hotspur, in 2018 he was a promising talent for a fee of 2.25 million euros from the Thames to the Lower Rhine. Since then, however, he has only made five short appearances for the professional team in the Bundesliga and one in the DFB Cup and has instead been used mainly in the regional league team. In the 2020/21 season, the left foot was loaned to the English third division club Ipswich Town and made 30 appearances there. In the summer, Bennetts was also traded at VfL Bochum.
