SV Darmstadt 98 extended coach Torsten Lieberknecht’s contract early on. The Lilien coach’s new contract now runs until the summer of 2025. The South Hessian second division team announced this on Wednesday. Previously, Lieberknecht’s contract ran until July 2023.
“We brought Torsten last year with the conviction that we would take the next steps in the development of our team together and continue to consolidate our modern, active style of play,” said manager Carsten Wehlmann in a first statement. This was extremely successful.
All opportunities for advancement
“I’ve emphasized several times that I want to work for a club for as long as possible if I identify with them,” Lieberknecht explained after signing the contract. “Since this is the case at Darmstadt 98, it quickly became clear to me that I wanted to extend the contract.”
Lieberknecht took over the lilies in the summer of 2021 after the departure of ex-coach Markus Anfang to Bremen. After a difficult start, also due to numerous corona cases, he continuously led the 98ers up the table. With four games to go before the end of the season, Darmstadt still has every chance of promotion to the Bundesliga.
