Darmstadt 98 will again have to do without Marvin Mehlem for a longer period of time. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder suffered another broken fibula in stoppage time in the away game against Werder Bremen and will undergo surgery later in the week, the Lilies announced. He was out from December to the end of January due to a broken fibula.

“We totally feel for Marvin because we know how sad he is that he won’t be able to help the team in the coming games. All of us at the club are keeping our fingers crossed for him for the upcoming period and will do all we can to support him in his rehab,” explained coach Torsten Lieberknecht about the right-footer, who is the joint most valuable player in the squad with a market value of 3 million euros.

Even after the game, Mehlem, who has scored three goals and two assists so far this season, had a bad premonition. “He has the feeling that exactly the same thing happened again in a duel. This is a first guess. But Marv has a bad feeling because it’s the same place,” Lieberknecht reported.
