Dargen D’amico in Sanremo: High wave and ceasefire

“Lhe story, God, they don’t accept the silent scene: cease-fire». The call for an end to the atrocities on Gaza Stripin the deafening silence of the institutions, comes from the stage of Sanremo Festival. And precisely from Dargen D’Amicowho in her look is all teddy bears and cuteness, has the courage to bring the attention of the public – present and at home – back to situation in the Middle East.

The meteor singers of Sanremo, from success to a new career

After his performance to the tune of the dance song High Wave – which hopes to repeat the success of Where we dance of 2022 – Dargen D’Amico traditionally thanks Amadeus «for this opportunity to sing this song which I dedicate to my little cousin Marta, who is now studying in Malta. She had this great luck.”

Dargen D’Amico: «There are too many children under the bombs»

At the beginning it seemed like a simple thank you as an end in itself, as befits all singers who perform at the Sanremo Festival. But the artist went further and continued his monologue: «Not all children are this lucky however,” he said, changing his tone and becoming more serious.

«In the Mediterranean Sea right now there are children under the bombs, without water and food. AND our silence is co-responsibility». She then closed her speech, which took place in front of an imperturbable Amadeus, who looked at her the whole time with a hint of embarrassment, probably wondering where she was going – saying that «history, God, do not accept the silent scene: cease fire».

A song about migrants

In reality, the song he brought to the competition already has very different themes from the previous Sanremo title: Quando Where we dance it was a light dance song, already born as a summer hit, this year’s song tells of the tragedy of migrants who lose their lives at sea.

«The high wave is coming/We stand still, we don’t talk and we don’t jump/Feel the thrill/I let you down I know/We are more than life preservers on the boat/The high wave is coming/All we have to do is pray until it passes», goes the refrain.

And that’s commendable of an artist bring the focus back to such a current topic, and so tragic. But we have to ask ourselves if it’s really up to him and not the institutions, which continue to do so remain impassive in the face of atrocities and to a general and global attitude of indolence that has persisted for five months now. And that he has done nothing to prevent, at the time of writing, over 27 thousand deaths. It would take aHigh Waveyes, but of true and profound indignation.
