The Italian of Argentine origin achieved the most important result of his career on clay, overtaking Hanfmann. Tomorrow night chasing the final
Luciano Darderi writes the best page of his career and gets his first career semifinal in an ATP 250. The Italian, in Cordoba, is experiencing an amazing week that has brought him to this point starting from the qualifiers. It is the fifth consecutive victory for Darderi, who after demolishing the Austrian Ofner, also beats the German Yannick Hanfmann, a player almost 80 positions ahead in the ranking (number 59 in the world). Darderi also takes advantage of his day of rest, unlike his rival who in the early Italian afternoon had gone through to the third set against Burruchaga, recovering part of the match which was interrupted yesterday due to bad weather (today many matches were played spread over several courts ). It ends 7-6 (2) 6-1 for Luciano (one hour and 40 minutes of play), who will play his semi-final on Saturday night (live on Sky Sport).
THE MATCH
—
The match was decided entirely in the first set, which was very long and hard-fought. If in the first 8 games everything is played on serve, the turning point seems to come in the ninth game. Darderi defends himself against the German who is hyper aggressive and takes advantage of the opportunity at the fifth break point, serving for the set at the change of court. Luciano is amazing there, because he doesn’t get upset and immediately regains the break, not trembling in the next game and dragging the match to the tie-break, in which he dominates. The second set doesn’t exist, because Hanfmann no longer works with his head and legs. Immediate double break and the match is in the hands of Luciano, who however lets himself be overwhelmed by emotion and allows Yannick to recover one of the two breaks behind, but it is just an accident, because the German’s serve no longer works. Darderi closes 6-1 (taking advantage of the fourth match point) and continues his unforgettable week.
