Striker Florian Niederlechner from Hertha BSC spoke out in favor of coach Pal Dardai remaining in the second division after the relegated team’s last Bundesliga game.

“Everyone knows what he has in Pal Dardai. He’s a club icon. Every fan loves him.” He himself “wouldn’t mind” if Dardai stayed, the 32-year-old attacker said on Saturday after Berlin’s 2-1 win at VfL Wolfsburg.

Dardai himself promised a decision on the coaching issue over the next week. “Let’s stick to the order: First, licensing. Then I made an assessment, which still has to be evaluated. In the next week you will definitely find out whether we will continue to work like this or not,” said the 47-year-old Hungarian.

Dardai’s contract as head coach expires after the end of this season. According to consistent media reports, however, the club management of the Berliners can well imagine entrusting the long-standing player and coach of Hertha with the rebuilding of the team in the 2nd Bundesliga.
