Danny Blom unexpectedly in Megatent Zwarte Cross: ‘Largest stage in the Netherlands’

Piraten Power Hour, the musical duo consisting of Danny Blom from Pesse and Hermen Schomaker from Ter Apel, was founded a year ago. Until this weekend, the act had three performances: in Musselkanaal, Nieuw-Weerdinge and Ter Apel. But this afternoon at 1 p.m. the men will make their appearance in the Megatent, the main stage of the Zwarte Cross. “The highest possible.”

A year ago, the idea for a pirate act came up in a telephone conversation between Danny and Hermen. “We both had a beer and decided to start Pirate Power Hour. It’s actually a hobby that got out of hand,” says Blom. An act has been released in which all well-known pirate hits are played at high speed and live mixed for an hour.

In its debut year, Piraten Power Hour had three performances in Drenthe and Groningen. But suddenly Blom, who works in his daily life as a radio DJ at 538, received a message in April: you can perform at the Zwarte Cross. “We never expected this. I didn’t get anything from the rest of the meeting I was in then, I really had to sit it out.”

For Blom it is a boy’s dream come true, because he has not missed a Black Cross since he was fifteen. “When I was fifteen my father asked ‘shall we go to the Zwarte Cross sometime?’ From the age of 18 I have always been at the campsite with my friends,” says Blom.

When it was founded, Piraten Power Hour had one goal: to perform at the Zwarte Cross. “We would have liked the campsite as well. But now we are on the biggest stage in the Netherlands,” says Blom. But he and Schomaker can even perform their act twice this afternoon. After they are done in the Megatent, they will do it again at the Loco Arena, along the cross track. “But this is really about the cross,” explains Blom.
