Danish prince can finally marry great love after 19 years

He has been together with the American Carina Axelsson (53) for almost 20 years and the two would have preferred to have been married for a long time.

Prince Gustav was not allowed to marry great love

An old testament from 1939 held the couple back all this time. Prince Gustav’s grandfather had something recorded in this at the time, which is very old-fashioned and outdated in the spirit of the times. Namely that the future husband of his grandson had to be Aryan, noble and Protestant. Gustav’s beloved Carina is none of them. Unfortunately, Gustav couldn’t just kid himself with this will.

Three-year lawsuit

If the prince were to marry Carina, he would no longer be able to claim the inheritance of no less than € 498 million, of which the Berleburg castle is also part. That’s quite a bit, and that’s why the two first decided not to get married. Until Prince Gustav’s father died and the inheritance issue, which came up again, stirred something in him. He decided to fight for his rights. A fight that lasted no less than three years.

Prince Gustav and Princess Carina

He took his family to court and after a three-year lawsuit, he was proved right. The Old Testament was dissolved. He is not only the rightful owner of the castle and the large sum of money, but a wedding can finally be planned. After the marriage, Carina gets a nice title. She then becomes Princess Carina of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg.

Old rules, laws and traditions… Fortunately, sometimes outdated agreements are broken. For example, the Danish Queen Margrethe herself broke with this age-old tradition:
