Daniel Stendel takes over the 2nd team from Hannover 96 – Lottner becomes U19 coach

Lottner becomes U19 coach

Former head coach Daniel Stendel returns to Hannover 96 as coach of the second team. The second division team announced this on Monday. After the coaching staff of the professional squad, the Lower Saxony are also completely reorganizing their junior division. Achim Sarstedt, who worked as an assistant to Volker Finke at SC Freiburg for 16 years and also headed the youth academy at VfL Wolfsburg, will be the new sports director of the 96-Akademie. For the U19s, the Reds signed the former Cologne Bundesliga professional Dirk Lottner, who most recently coached FC Energie Cottbus and 1. FC Saarbrücken.

Stendel, who was on the sidelines at FC Barnsley, Heart of Midlothian FC and AS Nancy-Lorraine after leaving Hannover in 2017, explained: “After the last few years at various clubs abroad, I wanted a longer-term perspective again and one Task where I have the chance to build something. It is an extremely exciting project to be able to contribute to the further development of the 96 Academy. My role in this will be to prepare the players in the transition area as best as possible for the mission above. I think I can use the experience I’ve had both in the youth field and on the professional side very well.”

Lottner, who among other things has the experience of 301 games in the 2nd Bundesliga and 119 in the German Oberhaus as a former professional, said of his new task: “Working with young talents was and is part of my CV. It has always appealed to me to pass on my experience from many years in football and to accompany and support the lads on their way to becoming a professional. I can now do that again in Hannover at a great club with good prospects.”
