A high jumper Daniel Kosonen dazzled on Saturday at the athletics Sweden match with her colorful hairstyle.

Kosonen’s hair had been dyed blue flowers in the spirit of Marimekko’s legendary Unikko pattern. Both Finns and Swedes marveled at the hairstyle.

The idea came from the seventh graders Vilma from Itälinna and Saga from Vannis.

– Initially, I only had to wear blue hair. I told Saga about it during training. He gave the idea for this, Kosonen said.

– A good friend’s girlfriend took care of it. He reportedly practiced all week.

Kosonen received a lot of compliments for his style during the evening.

– I have received endless comments. I like to be the center of attention.

Kosonen has invested in his hairstyle in competitions before. In the cold evening in Helsinki, he wondered if unusual styles should be made into a habit.

– I have never had such a distinctive hairstyle before. Maybe in the future I will use it Dennis Rodman – tactics. A different hairstyle for every race, he referred to the basketball legend.

Also Swedish Melwin Lycke Holm had prepared for the international match in a special style. A friend varnished Lycke Holm’s nails blue-yellow and a Swedish flag adorned her cheek.

The Swede had a clear opinion about Kosonen’s hairstyle.

– No, that’s the limit for me! I’ll skip it, he commented with a laugh.

Junnila to help

Kosonen made an effort to win the men’s height competition with a result of 214. He missed 216 and attempted his record height of 223 three times.

Kosonen received tips before his record hunt From Ella Junnila. The SE high jump woman will not compete in the Sweden match, but shared advice from the stands.

– Ella gave advice on pace and the mental support I needed. Ella knows what things I need to hear and knows how to say them.

The two have supported each other in the past as well. Kosonen was in the role of grandstand coach in Torun, Poland last year, when Junnila won the indoor EC bronze.

– This was a return gift. The roles seem to work for us.

Kosonen’s best result of the season is 220. The record is a centimeter better, but bangs would be even better.

– It would have been nice to set a record in the Sweden match, because the jumps were good. I’m in a good shape. It’s even a bit sad to end the season here.

Kosonen won the men’s height race, but the next two places went to Sweden. The points were evenly divided 11–11.
