Soccer star Dani Alves, 40, has been jailed since January. He is accused of rape, which happened on December 30 in a night club.
Alves has denied the accusations, but has reportedly changed his account of the events at the nightclub no less than four times.
He continued along the same lines in an interview with La Vanguardia.
– I have learned afterwards that I passed a woman who was sitting and crying. I didn’t see him. If I had seen, I would have asked what happened, Alves said Expressen’s to La Vanguardia and continued:
– If someone had told me that he was going to accuse me of sexual abuse, I wouldn’t have gone home. I would have gone straight to the police station to clarify the situation.
Alves returned home from the night club. His wife Joanna Sainz was already asleep, so Alves said he had taken a shower.
– I was ashamed of my infidelity, I soaped myself up in anger.
A few days later, the criminal complaint filed against him became public. A little later, Alves was arrested and is currently in prison.
He gave the interview because of his wife.
– There is only one person I have to apologize to and that is my wife. The woman I married eight years ago and hope to spend the rest of my life with.
– I have already personally apologized to him here in prison. When this became public, he also deserves a public apology. Hard times are ahead of him, so I thank him for everything he has done for me. I love her and I’m sure I didn’t make a mistake in choosing her as my wife. Although he must have made a mistake by choosing me.
The victim’s perspective
Spanish TV program El programa de Ana Rosa said that he had obtained the interrogation reports in May.
In them, a 23-year-old woman tells the police about the events of the Sutton nightclub. The woman’s friend added that intercourse had taken place in the toilet.
– I voluntarily went to the bathroom and after a few kisses I said I wanted to leave, and he refused me. He started saying unpleasant things about me like you are my little whore and he hit me. He threw my bag on the floor and hit me, the woman told the Mossos d’Esquadra, or Catalan police.
