In parts of Wallonia, watercourses have exceeded the flood warning level. In the East Cantons, the ‘red’ alarm phase applies to the risk of flooding, in the area around Liège, the ‘yellow’ alarm phase applies. The Ourthe, among other things, is in danger of bursting its banks. The water level is expected to drop today.

Among other things, the water level of the Ourthe has risen dangerously high, reports RTL. Although a peak was predicted last night, the water level still rose this morning. The water level was expected to drop during the course of the day on Tuesday.

There is also a risk of flooding in the province of Liège, including at the Amblève, but less acutely. There, the ‘yellow’ alarm phase applies for the time being.

“The situation is being closely monitored,” it said. “It is advisable to remain cautious near watercourses.”

Wallonia was hit hard by floods in the summer of 2021. Dozens of people were killed, hundreds of homes were destroyed and tens of thousands of others were seriously damaged.

Germany

There is also a threat of flooding in several parts of Germany due to persistent rainfall. The broadcaster ARD reported that the authorities in the northwestern state of Lower Saxony fear dike breaches and that they also have to take into account flooding in the Weser area on the North Sea coast.
