Damon Albarn announces Blur break: “It’s too much for me”

The band only returned from a long break in 2023, and now it should be that time again.

It wasn’t until 2022 that Blur announced their return for 2023 after an eight-year break – with a new record and several live shows. Damon Albarn has now announced that the rock band will be taking a break until further notice. However, he did not say how long this should last. “It’s too much for me,” he explained the decision.

In an interview with the French magazine “Les Inrockuptibles”, the Brit announced that it was time for him to take a break again. “It was the right thing and a great honor to play these songs again, spend time with these guys, make an album, blah-blah-blah,” said Damon Albarn on the topic.

However, the singer didn’t really make it clear whether there would be a comeback after another Blur silence: “I’m not saying I won’t do it again, it was a wonderful success, but I’m not dwelling on the past.”

Working on new Gorillaz album

Damon Albarn has a lot planned for the future. He shared in the interview that he will be working on an “opera that will be performed in Paris next year,” according to the musician. He also explained that he wanted to meet Gorillaz co-founder Jamie Howlett in India to “start working on a new Gorillaz album.”

Blur recently released their ninth studio album THE BALLAD OF DARREN and played their last planned show in South America last month.
