If all goes well, the Westeinde ferry will be able to sail again between Breezand and Julianadorp from next week. The province, however, is holding back. At the beginning of this month, the ferry was badly damaged in a fatal accident. The dukdalf must be replaced, but there is a chance that the old pole will break off when replaced.
The contractor has been busy replacing the old pole today. Tomorrow the province expects to be able to say whether the work has been successful.
If the removal of the pole goes smoothly, we expect the ferry to be able to sail again from Monday 29 May. ‘If the pile does break during removal, the contractor expects to need an extra two weeks to carry out the repair work.’
A temporary ferry has been deployed for cyclists and pedestrians. It will sail until the ferry is repaired.
