Damaged bobsleigh track at Königssee is to be repaired

The destroyed bobsleigh track at Königssee is to be completely repaired. The Berchtesgadener Land district council decided this with a large majority on Tuesday, as the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” reports.

Accordingly, the ice track, which was damaged in a severe storm two years ago, should be rebuilt by the 2025/26 season.

“It’s a load off our athletes’ hearts,” wrote Olympic luge champion Felix Loch on Instagram: “Finally the children have their track back. Thanks to everyone who fought so long and hard for our ‘living room’.”

The federal government is providing 53.5 million euros for the project, which costs a total of over 60 million euros. As the owner of the railway, the district receives another six million euros from funding. The plans also include safety precautions such as protection against rockfalls and landslides.

They partially destroyed the facility and buried it under rubble after the violent storm in 2021, when hundreds of people lost their lives in Germany.
