Damage to buildings due to drought in France estimated at 1.6 to 2.4 billion euros | Abroad

The previous record dates back to 2003, when the drought caused damage of 2.12 billion euros. Since 1982, fire insurance in France has also covered natural disasters.

This only concerns damage to buildings in municipalities that are recognized as natural disaster areas. Damage to the crops is not part of it.

According to the French insurers, the drought, a consequence of global warming, is the main challenge for the sector. Between 2020 and 2050, the weather phenomenon is estimated to cause damage in France for 43 billion euros.
