After weeks of high water in West Friesland, the water level has dropped for the time being. This slowly makes it clear what damage the water has caused. For example, there appears to be a leak in the Broekerhaven in Stede Broec, which means that the water level there is now too low. Power boxes are also being checked and a number of trees have probably ‘drowned’.
The water level on the Markermeer is still high, but the Sassluis in Enkhuizen can still open. It no longer poses a danger to the homes behind the lock and ships can therefore enter and leave the port again. The doors of the Sassluis were closed on December 20 and were closed for a total of three weeks.
The lock is still closed at the Broekerhaven in Bovenkarspel. The sandbags at the bicycle tunnel that were previously placed as a precaution have been removed, making them accessible again.
Inexplicable leak in Broekerhaven
Hollands Noorderkwartier Water Board is still closely monitoring the situation there. For some inexplicable reason, the water level in the harbor has actually dropped considerably and water is even being pumped into it. Daily checks are made to ensure that the quays remain stable and the cause of the leak is sought.

The high water peak on Visserseiland in Hoorn also seems to be behind us. On Sunday the water in the street was so high that the water flowed through the large bags of sand seeped through. Pumps were installed on Monday as a precaution, but those turned out not to be necessary.
Visserseiland is an ice skating rink: the street remains closed
The water has now receded quite a bit. But due to the frost, the street has now turned into an ice rink. But even when the water is completely gone, the street will remain closed.
The sewer system must first be inspected, as well as any possible damage underground. As soon as possible, 200 big bags and 2,500 sandbags will be removed. Power boxes are checked, just like the probably ‘drowned’ trees. The first one has already fallen over due to the amount of water. Flooded garbage bins also need to be emptied.
Double leg fracture after slide in Grashaven
The Grashaven is also still not accessible. One man did enter the harbor and slipped. He suffered a double fracture in his tibia and fibula, for which he has since undergone surgery.
“Today I am in a good mood with my leg, I hardly have any pain. It does feel a bit stiff, but I can walk with crutches. Kudos to the staff of the Dijklander Hospital in Hoorn, what skilful care,” he writes .
Rescue brigade remains deployable
Notwin rescue brigade, which has a rescue post in the harbour, previously had difficulty getting to the boat and was worried whether they could still respond in the event of an emergency. “The Grashaven is an ice rink, but we still succeed,” says Vincent Tigchelaar of the rescue brigade.

Nesbos recreational area in Onderdijk, which is located outside the dike, is still completely under water. The cycle path was therefore closed last week closed with a fence. The water has now turned into ice. And that produces beautiful winter pictures.
The same applies to the Van der Meulen beach in Bovenkarspel. There, a combination of the wavy water and the frost has left behind true works of art. As shown in the photos below
