Daley Blind can match Dirk Kuijt and approach the top 5 record internationals

Daley Blind can play his 104th international match for the Dutch national team in the European Championship qualifier against Ireland on Saturday.

The 33-year-old player from the surprising Spanish leader Girona has a chance of playing time due to the absence of injured defenders Nathan Aké and Micky van de Ven, who are also both left-footed.

When Blind plays against Ireland, the former FC Groningen player (2009-2010) will be level with Dirk Kuijt and will have the top 5 in sight. Giovanni van Bronckhorst now occupies fifth place with 106 games for the Dutch team.

Wesley Sneijder played the most international matches, 134. This is followed by Edwin van der Sar (130), Frank de Boer (112) and Rafael van der Vaart (109).

Blind made his debut in February 2013 in a practice match against Italy (1-1). Louis van Gaal was the national coach at the time. Blind participated with the Dutch team in the 2014 and 2022 World Cup and the 2021 European Championship.

Denzel Dumfries

Denzel Dumfries will play against Ireland, if he is in the starting line-up as expected, his 50th international match. The right wing defender of Internazionale will be presented with a silver bowl after the match. Traditionally, the KNVB awards silver bowls to internationals for 25, 50 and 75 international matches. At 100 international matches, players receive a gold bowl.

The 27-year-old Dumfries made his debut on October 13, 2018, in the 3-0 Nations League match against Germany. Ronald Koeman was also the national coach at the time.
