Above all, the film sheds light on his relationship with his muse Anke, whom he met in Berlin.
On Tuesday, May 16, at 4 p.m., the documentary “ÜBER DAGOBERT – Berg, Stadt und Liebesbriefe” will be released via YouTube. The 16-minute film is primarily about the relationship between the eponymous Swiss singer and his muse, an elderly bartender named Anke from Berlin. “After all these years, I just want to say that all the rumors are true and, above all, that I exist,” Anke is quoted as saying in the press release. Many of the songs on Dagobert’s first two albums DAGOBERT (2013) and AFRIKA (2015) are about her.
Roman Hodel directed, Fabio Tozzo was behind the camera. Hodel also tells us that the film, which was commissioned by the cultural center “Dampfzentrale Bern”, also contains unreleased music by the artist, which only a few people have heard so far.
A first documentary about the mysterious artist was released in 2013, which helped him gain fame in his adopted hometown of Berlin. You can watch them on YouTube:
Lukas Jäger, as Dagobert’s real name is, moved to Berlin for six months after graduating from high school, where he met Anke, who was ten years his senior, and fell in love with her. After half a year in the big city, he moved to the seclusion of Panix in Graubünden. He lived a secluded life there and spent his time composing and recording his songs, which he sent to his sweetheart Anke. After spending five years in the mountains, he returned to Berlin, where his music career finally took off. In 2019, Dagobert went to Zweisimmen, a municipality in the Swiss canton of Bern, where he currently lives.
Since his first two albums, Dagobert has released three more records. WORLD WITHOUT TIME (2019), HUNTERS (2021) and BONN PARK (2022), which is his current work. On November 25, 2022, the 41-year-old released his current single “Weihnachten zu Zweit” with Kay Shanghai.
