The arrest took place last Tuesday, on the basis of an international arrest warrant issued by a Brussels court. According to Brazilian and Portuguese media, the man was also reported to Interpol. He is suspected of murdering his own baby, barely 3 months old.
The facts took place in Brussels in April 2023. According to experts, the baby died from fatal blows to the head and/or because he was violently shaken. The 28-year-old father is the main suspect because he was the only one present with the baby in the apartment in Brussels at the time of the facts.
The suspect has been locked up in a Portuguese prison pending his extradition to our country. Here the 28-year-old risks up to twenty years in prison.
The arrest was made following cooperation between the Belgian, Brazilian and Portuguese police. The suspect lived in Brussels, but comes from Inhumas, a municipality in the Brazilian state of Goias.
