Daan Schuurmans surprises friend and foe with the sky-high viewing figures of his new history series Het Verhaal van Nederland. He is currently the biggest viewing figure king in the country.
The Story of the Netherlands started last week with an excellent 1.7 million viewers (29% market share), but yesterday there were even more: the second episode was good for more than 2 million viewers (34%) on NPO 1. an extraordinarily high score, especially for this genre of programs. A considerable boost for Daan Schuurmans.

The sky-high viewing figures prove that Daan and his history series strike a chord with the viewer. Even Angela de Jong was positive after the first episode last week. “As far as I’m concerned, this is the NPO at its best: content presented in an accessible way,” wrote the opinion diva of the AD.
For Angela it is also a nice refresher course in Dutch history. She has forgotten a lot of that. “I can now easily say that it is because of the teacher. If he had resembled Daan Schuurmans in the least, I would have hung up on his every word.”
RTL 4 flops
Thanks to Daan’s program and Studio Peking (1.1 million and 23%) NPO 1 takes gold in prime time. Meanwhile, the major competitor RTL 4 had a busy evening. Snackmasters scored poorly (575 thousand and 10%) and Art Rooijakkers also continues to score poorly with his exchangeable Dutch celebrities in Rooijakkers over de Floor (562 thousand and 11%).
Because of these meager scores, SBS 6 captured the silver in prime time. And all this thanks to the structurally well-scoring VI Today, which this time reached 913 thousand viewers (19%). Prior to that, Steenrijk Straatarm recorded 790 thousand (13%).
NPO 2’s Nieuwsuur was also the most popular with 585 thousand viewers (12%).
Viewing figures
Programs that did not reach the top fifteen viewing figures include GTST (908 thousand), Beau (771 thousand), Hart van Nederland (643 thousand), Medien die rijn (571 thousand), Shownieuws (516 thousand), Nachtdieren (480 thousand) , Big Brother (356 thousand), Deal or no Deal (170 thousand).
