Daan Boom, who doesn’t know him? He’s such a big star these days that he can’t even walk down the street normally anymore. Or to a festival. “I don’t want to let that kind of thing take me away.”
The world-famous presenter Daan Boom in the Netherlands tells in a heartbreaking interview with het AD that his fame has definitively put an end to his normal life. Wherever he goes or stands: everyone recognizes him. And that starts to gnaw at him. It’s a struggle, he says.
Not to festivals
Going to a festival as normal is no longer an option for this Daan. “My girlfriend actually doesn’t like going to a festival with me anymore, she can’t really be ‘with me’ there. I find that painful, but I don’t want to let things like that be taken away from me.”
It is difficult to find a solution, he says. “Saying no when someone asks if they can take a picture, I find it very difficult at the same time. For me it may be the twentieth time someone asks, but the person in question thinks: hey, nice, I know him from somewhere.”
Reject photos
Daan can hardly shake people off. He is now experimenting with refusing photos and autographs at public events. “I did it with carnival, refusing photos in a friendly way. People actually reacted very relaxed to that.”
Can Daan actually enjoy his fame in this way? Difficult, he muses. “There are also people watching on TV who have not asked for this program at all, which is exciting. At the same time I keep saying to myself: don’t say that, Daan. Enjoy it. Be happy to get this podium.”
Who is this?
On to the most important question: who is Daan Boom? According to Wikipedia is this a ‘Dutch presenter, program maker and comedian. He is also an artist under the name The Dean’. There is no Wikipedia page for it yet.
Daan is best known according to the online encyclopedia of the Streetlab program and as a candidate in Maestro. Phew, that’s quite a laundry list indeed. Is that all? No! “In the summer of 2021, Boom filled in as a radio DJ on NPO 3FM.”
Pray for Dan
Hey, something isn’t right here. Making radio on 3FM and no longer being able to walk normally on the street? No one listens to that station! According to EenVandaag star Lammert de Bruin, we are dealing with a drama queen here. “Pray for Dan”, he tweets sarcastic.
Journalist Roel Geeraedts: “Who is this?”
Lammert: “No idea.”
