In the spring of 2023, the city council, together with the NMBS, presented plans for a new station building. A station building with the wide underground walking and cycling boulevard as its central axis that connects the center with the station district on the south side. This axis offers a direct and safe boulevard under the tracks and under Minister Tacklaan, towards Bloemistenstraat.
The Kortrijk Cyclists’ Union strongly believes in the potential of this connection for cyclists and walkers and proposes to transform part of the Bloemistenstraat and the Pater Beckstraat into a car-free, high-quality and green Cycling Avenue without crossing car traffic, connecting to this axis. This can be achieved by diverting car traffic from the adjacent streets as much as possible to one of the main axes.
