Cyclist seriously injured after collision with concrete mixer in Kortrijk

The accident happened near the roundabout between Markesteenweg and Felix De Bethunelaan. The cyclist, in his forties, was seriously injured and was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. The accident disrupted bus traffic in the area. This is reported by De Lijn.

Charter to avoid heavy traffic

The exact circumstances of the accident are not yet clear. The public prosecutor will appoint a traffic expert to investigate how the accident could have happened. There are several schools in the vicinity of the accident site and it is sometimes very busy. However, in 2016, the city of Kortrijk was the first city to sign a site charter to avoid heavy traffic around school environments at the start and end of a school day.
