Cyclist Niki Terpstra says goodbye with a win in Six Days: “It’s going to be more relaxed now”

Cyclist Niki Terpstra has closed his professional career in style with the victory in the Six Days of Rotterdam. Together with Yoeri Havik, the duo managed to maintain their leading position today. “A top sport life is always busy, because you have to perform. It’s going to be more relaxed now,” said Terpstra about his future life.

A few hours before the Six Days starts, the born Zaankanter arrives early in Ahoy. In the catacombs he warms himself up on the rollers. “At that time I was purely concerned with the course and not with the things around it,” says Terpstra.

More than a caretaker

In recent years, Joop Floor has been Terpstra’s regular caretaker. From the start we clicked and a beautiful friendship was born. “As a soigneur you are indeed more than a confidant. Then you have conversations with each other that go quite far,” says Floor. “Joop was always there for me. In good times and especially in bad times. Then you know what you have in people,” Terpstra says.

NH Sport was present in Ahoy on Saturday and made the above report.
