Cyclist in life-threatening condition after collision

The accident took place on the large roundabout of the Oostendestraat with the Vredelaan in Torhout. The van was just about to leave the roundabout when the woman crossed the street. After dragging the cyclist about ten meters, the van came to a stop and the woman eventually fell.

Worrying condition

The woman’s condition was fatal. An MUG team and an ambulance quickly arrived and took her to the AZ Delta hospital in Rumbeke. The driver of the van was unharmed, except the vehicle had a cracked windshield.

No priority

The first findings show that the cyclist should have given way to road traffic. There is a priority sign on the cycle path and shark teeth are painted on the ground.
