Around 4 p.m., the man suddenly fell from his bicycle to the ground and remained motionless. An ambulance and mosquito team rushed to the scene, as did the fire brigade. CPR attempts were unsuccessful. The man could no longer help, he died on the spot. Due to the incident, the N8 between Ypres and Elverdinge (Ypres) was closed to traffic in both directions for a while.
