Cyclist (61) dies after collision: excessive car speed probable cause

Emergency services tried to resuscitate the cyclist, but he died on the spot. The accident happened at 10:18 this morning along the Esenweg in Esen near Diksmuide. According to the public prosecutor’s office, four people were also slightly injured. The damage to the cars involved is considerable.

Driver walks away

A male driver tried to overtake the vehicle in front, but drove the right front of his car into the back of the car in front of him. He was then catapulted away and hit the cyclist and the other cars. He would have initially walked away, but bystanders would have approached him. The alcohol test was negative but there is no result of the blood test yet.
