Cycling zone in Poperinge city center: “More dangerous now than before”

Cycling zones are occurring in more and more cities and municipalities. In those streets, cyclists are allowed to use the entire carriageway. It is forbidden for vehicles to overtake them and there is also a maximum speed of 30 kilometers per hour.

The cycling zone is indicated with signs and special banners in the streets, and should make cyclists feel safer. In Poperinge there are supporters and opponents: “The young guys drive very slowly in front of the car. As a result, there is a whole traffic jam behind us. Now it is actually more dangerous.”
