Cycling, Tour of Switzerland: Bettiol rejoices in the sprint but in front there is Leknessund

The blue beats Matthews and thinks he has won the second stage. No one had warned him that 38 ”earlier the 23-year-old Norwegian had arrived

Alberto Bettiol rejoices … but the second stage of the Tour of Switzerland, Küsnacht-Aesch of 198 km, was won by the Norwegian Andreas Leknessund, 23 years old of Team DSM. The fraction experienced a day’s breakaway which, after the selections on the various climbs, saw six riders remain: Schar, Leknessund, Rutsch, Badilatti, Holmes and Burgaudeau. The fugitives managed to maintain the advantage despite the group’s attempts to mend the gap with Leknessund who managed to detach his escape companions by presenting himself alone on the final finish line.

The sprint for 2nd place

While the Norwegian was celebrating his third victory as a pro ‘(he also won the national title in 2019 and 2020) the sprint for second place was staged with Alberto Bettiol who beat Matthews, Pasqualon and Trentin by raising his arms and exulting evidently convinced that he had won. Zambanini, Oss and Oldani also placed in the top 10. Briton Stephen Williams remains in command of the race. Stage 3 on Tuesday: Aesch-Grenchen (176.9 km).
