Professional cyclist Heinrich Haussler (39) ends his professional career and becomes the sports director of the Bahrain-Victorious team. This was announced by the team.
In the case of Haussler, who lives in Freiburg, had German citizenship until 2010 and had attended the Cottbus racing cycle school, changes were found in the annual cardiological examination in December 2022. After further assessments by specialists in Germany and Italy, the conclusion was that continuing the career would be too risky.
Haussler, son of a German father and an Australian mother, celebrated his most successful year in 2009. He won a stage of the Tour de France and finished second in both the Milan-Sanremo and Tour of Flanders classics.
“I started cycling when I was six and went to Germany when I was 14 because I wanted to be a professional,” said Haussler. “The decision to stop has now been taken from me and I have had time to look back on my career. I am happy that I can now take the next step.”
