“Hup Holland Hup”: Two solo rides by Dutch women characterized the 2nd stage of the Ladies Thuringia Tour: In the end, Mischa Bredewold in Gera won after 153 km.

Mischa Bredewold from Team SD Worx won the longest stage of the 35th Tour of Thuringia. The Dutchwoman won on Wednesday after 153.5 kilometers starting and finishing in Gera as a soloist ahead of her teammates Barbara Guarischi and Lorena Wiebes. In the overall standings, Bredewold replaced Lotte Kopecky, who also rode for SD Worx, at the top thanks to Belgium’s success.

Breakaway Quinty Schoens from the Netherlands dominated the stage for a long time. The 24-year-old first caught up with two other breakaways and finally went into the last third as a soloist. Schoens had a maximum lead of 3:20 minutes before other riders around Bredewold joined her. The 22-year-old broke away alone in the last eleven kilometers and, despite the work of the sprinter teams, was not caught again. The peloton finished a few seconds later. Bredewold told MDR: “I had the past year in the back of my mind when I was intercepted ten meters from the finish line in Thuringia.”

On Thursday, the riders have to cover far fewer kilometers. However, the 94.6-kilometer route around Schmölln has about 1,000 meters in altitude, as does the stage around Gera. The tour ends on Sunday in Mühlhausen.
