The third stage of the “Lotto-Thüringen Ladies Tour” goes to the runner-up from the previous day from the still dominant team SD Worx. The best German of the tour meanwhile had to give up before the race.
Team SD Worx dominates the 35th Tour of Thuringia. The Italian Barbara Guarischi won the third stage in Schmölln on Thursday after an exciting sprint and secured the Dutch team the third day’s success. Only a few meters before the finish, the peloton around Guarischi caught up with the breakaways who had been leading up to that point. Second place after 94.6 kilometers and 1000 meters of altitude went to Guarischi’s teammate and European Champion Lorena Wiebes.
Bauernfeind had to do without the start – Riedmann best German
The German victory hope Ricarda Bauernfeind had to give up the race. The 23-year-old suffered from health problems and decided not to start. Before the start of the stage, Bauernfeind was in fifth place and was the best German. In the coming week she wants to inspect the route for the Tour de France Femmes, which takes place from July 23rd to 30th.
Linda Riedmann secured the title as the best German of the third stage in eighth place. The day before she finished tenth in the top ten. Hannah Ludwig, another starter for Team Germany, fell on the track but was able to finish the race with minor injuries.
Friday we go to Gotha
In the overall standings, Mischa Bredewold from the Netherlands defended who won the second stageher lead ahead of Wiebes and Belgium’s cycling star Lotte Kopecky.
On Friday (May 26) it will be even harder for the drivers. Although there are around 1,000 meters of altitude to climb around Gotha, there are some significantly steeper climbs to be overcome on the 135.5 kilometers. The stage starts at 12:00 p.m., and the riders are expected to cross the finish line at around 3:47 p.m.
The tour ends on Sunday in Mühlhausen.
