Visma-Lease a bike has secured the arrival of one of the greatest lap talents in the peloton. Despite an ongoing contract, Cian Uijtdebroeks is closing the door on Bora-hansgrohe and signing a four-year contract with the Dutch team until the end of 2027.
The 20-year-old Belgian impressed last season with an eighth place in the Tour of Spain. He was still stuck at Bora until the end of 2024, but there has been some noise on the line lately.
Uijtdebroeks complained about the bikes in the Chrono des Nations and at the end of the Vuelta there was a problem with teammate Aleksandr Vlasov, who still took 7th place in the final classification from Uijtdebroeks. In addition, Primoz Roglic added an additional leader to strengthen the team for 2024.
Visma-Lease a bike CEO Richard Plugge was asked last week about his interest in Uijtdebroeks, but did not really look into his cards at the time. “I think he still has a contract. We are indeed interested in Cian. We were like that when he was still a junior. We already spoke to him then. Like I said, he has a contract.” A few days later an agreement was reached.
