Cyclist Beau van Izerloo (22) died on Friday afternoon after a collision with a truck in Hotton, Belgium. He was resuscitated in vain after the collision, Belgian newspapers reported Het Laatste Nieuws and Het Nieuwsblad. His Wielervereniging Willebrord Wil Vooruit (WWV) from Sint Willebrord commemorates the rider on Facebook: ‘Incomprehensible, incomprehensible’.

The young rider comes from Dordrecht and cycled at WWV. “Words fall short here,” the club writes. According to Belgian media, the cyclist died after the first stage of the promise race Arden Challenge.

Mayor Philippe Courard of the Belgian municipality of Hotton in Wallonia expressed his condolences via social media. “The large cycling family is in mourning today. A tragedy took place on the bridge in which a young Dutch rider was killed.”
