Cycling: Kämna defends second place overall at Tirreno-Adriatico

The German professional cyclist Lennard Kämna successfully defended his second place in the overall ranking of the Tirreno-Adriatico long-distance cycle race.

The German professional cyclist Lennard Kämna (Wedel) is among the front runners in the week-long Italian stage race Tirreno-Adriatico. The 26-year-old from Team Bora-hansgrohe reached the finish of the 210 km long second stage from Camaiore to Follonica with the peloton and successfully defended second place in the overall standings.

Kämna’s gap to two-time time trial world champion Filippo Ganna (Italy/Ineos Grenadiers) is 28 seconds. The day’s victory in the “race between the seas” went to Fabio Jakobsen on Tuesday. The Dutch European champion from the Soudal-Quick Step team won the mass sprint ahead of Jasper Philipsen from Belgium (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Fernando Gaviria from Colombia (Movistar). Phil Bauhaus (Bocholt/Bahrain Victorious) took sixth place.

The third stage on Wednesday leads over 216 km and hilly terrain from Follonica to Foligno.
