Cycling, Giro d’Italia: Frenchman Arnaud Demare gets sprint victory in Messina – Giro d’Italia – cycling

Mark Cavendish dropped early

A five-person breakaway group broke away from the peloton after just a few kilometers, who in turn pushed the pace themselves and left sprinter king Mark Cavendish behind. The 36-year-old Brit from Team Quick-Step therefore had nothing to do with the decision in his favorite discipline and finished far behind.

The sixth stage takes the Giro entourage north to the Italian mainland on Thursday. The 192-kilometer section from Palmi to Scalea offers optimal conditions for the sprinters after a short climb in the fourth category at the start.
