As recently as last week he had won two stages on the Tour du Rwanda. But now Alexander Geniez, a 33-year-old Frenchman from TotalEnergies, has been sentenced by the Rodez judicial court to 4 months on probation for marital violence. Already winner of 3 stages at the Vuelta in the past, with retirement in sight at the end of the season, Geniez was also sentenced to pay a symbolic euro of damages as requested by his former partner in the January hearing.
ACCUSATIONS – His partner had accused him of psychological and physical violence between February 2020 and November 2021. The cyclist has always denied, but his defensive line was put in difficulty by an audio that hinted of threats brought by him during a quarrel with the woman last fall, while they were separating.
