He himself is standing on the terrace along the water, where he sees several cyclists and pedestrians crossing the road on the other side of the water. A man sits on a bench with his dog. “A bridge? That’s a good idea, but it will probably never happen,” he says. But that bridge will be there. “Well, that’s nice. There are quite a few boats moored and sailing here in the summer. The drivers now have difficulty reaching the terrace,” he says.
Stefan Hoekstra is not only happy that the bridge is being built. “There’s a big residential area coming this way,” he says, pointing to a large area behind the restaurant. “It makes it easier for residents to walk or cycle along the water in an incredibly beautiful area. And of course we hope that they will come and get a cup of coffee, lunch, pastry or something else from us,” he laughs.
The costs for the construction of the bridge are somewhat reasonable, because it is not a new bridge. The bridge was previously located on Bleekerseiland in the center of the city. This peninsula in the city is going to change and that is why the bridge is no longer necessary. Stage builder InterStage owns the bridge and is donating it for this project.
