Professional cyclist Phil Bauhaus narrowly missed out on winning the stage at the start of the season in Australia.
The 29-year-old from the Bahrain Victorious team had to admit defeat in the finish sprint at the start of the Tour Down Under only to local hero Sam Welsford from the German racing team Bora-hansgrohe.
A year ago, Bauhaus won the first stage in Australia.
“I definitely have what it takes to win, but you can’t always win,” said Bauhaus after 144 kilometers with start and finish in Tanunda: “There are still a few chances for sprinters here, so I hope that maybe I can win another stage can win.”
