A 20-year-old man from Eelderwolde, who is suspected of stealing crypto currency, will be detained for sixty days longer. That is what the court has decided. He was arrested two weeks ago, after Team Cybercrime of the North Netherlands Police tracked him down.
The man was already convicted of the same offense in December last year. He was then sentenced to four years in prison, two years of which were suspended. Because the man in custody had already served a large part of his unconditional sentence, he was given more freedom at the beginning of this year. He is now suspected of having continued to commit the same criminal offenses in freedom.
According to the Public Prosecution Service, the man managed to find out the login details of his victims through certain actions, after which he emptied the crypto wallets of the victims. It contains crypto coins that are worth a certain amount. The total amount of damage is currently estimated to be at least 125,000 euros. Because the investigation is still ongoing, both a higher amount of damage and further arrests cannot be ruled out.
In addition to cybercrime, the man is also suspected of computer trespass, fraud, improper use of telecommunications and money laundering.
