Cuypershuis turns into a great color spectacle | 1Limburg

If you walk into the Cuypershuis in Roermond from Sunday, you will enter rooms full of different color patterns. Decorative patterns are central to the new exhibition The Waved Line.

“It is a spectacle for the eye,” says museum curator Jeannine Hövelings.

Effect
“We would like to show what effect patterns can have on people and on interiors,” says Hövelings. In the exhibition you will come into contact with all kinds of colors and motifs of historical and contemporary interiors. “We have a lot of works from about a hundred years ago,” says the curator.

Showpieces from Ridderzaal
The spaces are arranged in such a way that wherever you look, your eyes will be dazzled by colors and shapes. “We also have two showpieces from the Ridderzaal on loan.” It concerns two rugs and also a covering. “That is a large linen canvas that has been restored especially for our exhibition. The canvas contains templates that were applied by Pierre Cuypers,” says Hövelings.

Overwhelming
An installation by the contemporary visual artist Christie van der Haak is on display. The connection between Cuypers and Van der Haak from The Hague is working with many patterns and colours. “We want to show with her work that it can also add a lot in contemporary times. Nowadays it is no longer self-evident that many patterns and templates are still used. Christie is a good example of how patterns can work overwhelmingly.” says Hövelings.
