She is the most famous cow in the Netherlands: Sijtje. And this afternoon on ‘Verde Kerstdag’ the fifteenth calf of cow Sijtje was born. She herself is 15 years old, which is very old for a cow. “The average cow in the Netherlands lives to be 7 years old, so fifteen calves is a lot,” says farmer Harry Heeman from the Beemster.
Sijtje gave birth to eleven cow calves, four bull calves and two sets of twins. “Sijtje was born as twins herself and therefore has a genetic predisposition for twins herself,” says farmer Heeman.
The cow became known, among other things, for its predictive ability. For example, she predicted the outcome of numerous football matches. The calf born today is a cow calf (girl). Whether she has the same gift as her mother at a young age remains to be seen.
