The lot was seized last week. According to the ministry, the container came from Brazil, but who is responsible for the smuggling is still under investigation.
The seizures of drugs, especially cocaine, in Antwerp have been increasing for years. This is partly due to better detection methods and technologies in the port area. Earlier this month, customs announced that they intercepted a total of 89.5 tons of cocaine in the port in 2021. That was an increase of 36 percent compared to 2020.
